Work In Progress

This is a work in progress, March 2017, 48" x 48", white out, sharpie, acrylic and ink on canvas. I will eventually remove the red tape, I am using it as a guide for the stamps that are being applied. Because I am often home while my young children are napping, I've been studying the everyday objects in my space (such as toothbrushes and scissors) recently, and they have become the subjects of my work. I'm not sure if it's a blessing or a curse that such items have suddenly become inspiring, but the change reflected in my recent subject materials evidences the sea change that occurs when one becomes a parent.

Defaced Dollar Bills

Defaced dollar bills, February, 2017. I created these for ConArtist Collective's upcoming defaced currency show, and really enjoy working within pre-determined size formats such as what the dollar bill imposes. Defacing currency feels like a very different political act than it did last year. I feel like a citizen of a completely changed (and defiled) country, so maybe defaced currency makes sense in 2017.  Defacing currency also feels mush riskier than it did before Trump's inauguration re: enforcement of 18 USC § 33.
